Samarkand Plov Cooking Class with a Local Family & Siyob Bazaar Tour
Learn to cook Uzbekistan's most famous dish where it tastes best: in a family home in Samarkand. This hands-on cooking class starts at Siyob Bazaar, the city's busiest market, where you walk the stalls with your host, taste local bread, dried fruit and spices, and see where the ingredients for your meal come from.
From the bazaar you go to a local family's house. Here you roll up your sleeves and cook together: Samarkand-style plov, with its layers of rice, yellow carrots and meat, plus hand-folded manti and samsa. Your hosts show you each step and explain the traditions behind the dishes, from how plov is served at weddings to why every region of Uzbekistan cooks it differently.
When the food is ready, you sit down at the family table and eat what you have cooked, with tea, conversation and a real look at everyday life in Samarkand. It is a relaxed, friendly experience that suits couples, families and small groups, and no cooking experience is needed.
Please note: Siyob Bazaar is closed on Mondays.
